People & Culture Lead | $140-160k+ super

The Company

A well stablished (50+ years), privately owned manufacturing and distribution business, this organisation is adept at reinventing themselves and staying in touch with the times. Having doubled in size the last 5 years, impressively they have amassed 35% of market share and are currently navigating through a digital transformation to mature their offering for their next growth phase. As a part of this journey, this business is now looking to hire a HR Lead to work as the Head Office subject matter expert on all things People & Culture. With all the hallmarks of stability yet modernity, this role will see you collaborate directly with the Managing Director to establish a trusted voice for HR, and together work to grow the business in a sustainable manner over the years to come.

The Leaders

This role reports directly to the Managing Director who is an enthusiastic and inspiring business leader with multiple ventures under their cap. This MD genuinely believes in the role of People & Culture being the facilitator and driver of performance and organisational growth and is envisioning the creation of a high-touch model. “I want someone who will come onboard, understand our vision, set the strategy – and tell me what to do, to make it happen.”

The Opportunity

As the People & Culture Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping this organisation's culture, attracting top talent, and ensuring the smooth functioning of all P&C specific processes. You will further support their growth and expansion as an organisation across local and international markets by focusing on performance and strategy.

From a day to day perspective, being a standalone role, your position will be a mix of strategic and operational work. There are no direct reports at present, however this will change with time. Specific responsibilities could be, but not be limited to:

  • Completing analysis of the current HR frameworks in place to determine priorities and inform the compilation of a broader People & Culture strategy (then subsequent build of various pillars);
  • Concentrated focus on L&D, performance, engagement, and manager capability;
  • Critical assessment of opportunities for process improvement (one project that needs attention is onboarding);
  • Embedding of the values into the business culture, and working on the evolution of a reward and recognition framework and EVP;
  • Management of the implementation of the HRIS & ATS you select (payroll is outsourced); and
  • Aligning with the ELT on the organisational strategy to set up sustainable foundations for the business to continue to mature and grow through the power of their products and their people.

Please note that it is assumed you will bring a HR Generalist skill-set to this role but be ready and looking for more of a strategic opportunity. You will need to be operational at times, however the business is currently functioning in a ‘manager led’ model with limited ER issues. Therefore, we expect more of your time to be spent on the ‘building’ and strategy implementation.

About You

To be considered for this role you will be an ambitious People & Culture professional with a strong HR generalist background, ready for a new and exciting challenge! You may be a HR Business Partner in a role with diverse responsibility, senior stakeholder engagement and some strategy. Or you may have experience already working in a standalone P&C role, even greenfield in nature. What is most important; is that you have the right attitude and hunger to partner with this MD & ELT on their growth journey. You will understand that being a manufacturing business at their core; they need to have a presence in the office (remote workers this is not the job for you!), however, once policies and systems are established that can support flexible work, that landscape will change in future. Finally, you will enjoy a mix of strategy and operations, be confident in your ability to identify HR needs and implement solutions and be looking to join an organisation that will provide you with unique exposure and a rewarding career!
